I agree. There need to be regular stairs.

I like this idea. Maybe a tunnel to crawl through also.
in reply to peba's comment
I agree, very repetitive and not a lot of variety.
in reply to caitlincathey's comment
I agree, swings or Monkey bars would be great.

There is a lot of unused space. Can we add Swings or Monkey Bars? The balance beam is nice. The hexagons are not functional or toddler friendly. While the look cool, it would be nice to have other features as well. There needs to be a regular stair/ladder to climb up.
The large slide should be split into two, or be like the big slide at kula park with multiple slides separated.
This park design is really disappointing compared to the other parks. The other parks both have multiple slides, multiple ways to climb up and lots of other balance beams, monkey bars etc. The Eddie tam park is hexagons, one giant slide and a lot of wasted space.

I agree. I am imaging my toddler getting stuck up in that top hexagon and needing help and not being able to get there. There need to be stairs as well.

I agree, this design is disappointing compared to the other playgrounds.
It would be nice to have two slides instead of one large slide. This doesnt seem very safe.
This walk way area seems like a waste of space. Could the fence line go to the edge of the grass with this covered walk way area becoming more room in the playground?
Suggestion
I agree..there really isn't much going on with the Eddie Tam Playground.
It would be nice to see 2 slides and also some steps going up to the slides along with the hexagon shapes. Swings would be a great addition also. A couple more sitting benches inside the playground too. it also looks like the space could be used a bit more efficiently by adding a small bridge to connect to another slide or jungle gym type of equipment.
Thank you for finally making this happen again!

Suggestion
agreed! The Kahului design seems like a much better use of space & also takes up less space
in reply to peba's comment
Suggestion
I would prefer to see the Kahului design at Eddie Tam instead as well

agree!

swings and/or monkey bars would be a great addition as well
Suggestion
I prefer the design of the Kahului playground over this playground design, but different slides are needed. The big wide slide should instead be a side-by-side slide or similar to the slide at Kula park where 3 kids can go down at a time, but it’s separated & safer. And the smaller slide should *not* have a bench/seat thing at the bottom of the slide

Suggestion
I agree

Suggestion
I totally agree! There needs to be a stairway or ramp that would allow all to safely access the slide. I’m thinking those with physical limitations, or just a 6’ 5”, 300 lb father that needs to be able to assist his 2 year old with getting up to the slide. No way could he fit in these hexagons.
Suggestion
Picnic table needs to be in the shade too. there needs to be more benches for parents or caregivers to sit on. bottle filling station is a great idea.
Suggestion
There is a lot of unused space. This Eddie Tam playground (0.2 acre) uses twice the area of the Kahului playground (0.1 acre), but the Kahului playground has significantly more activities for the kids to play on with multiple slides and a variety of structure styles.

Suggestion
I agree with this suggestion. This design is extremely limiting.
Question
Is this the only flat area for kids to gather at the top after climbing the structure? If so, I have concerns. There needs to be a bridge or some other place for kids who want to climb to wait for their turn. Otherwise this is going to get crowded and dangerous.
Suggestion
Can we add a pretend play station underneath the structure like the other 2? Something like a store window or a steering wheel for the younger kids who don't want to climb to play in. I commented on the others to highlight what I'm talking about.
Question
What material is the ground going to be made of?
Question
Is there a gate that latches shut here at the entrance or is it open?
in reply to peba's comment
Suggestion
I agree with this and really would prefer a design like the other two parks for Eddie Tam
Suggestion
I like this balance/stepping stone style. Would like to see more of this like a balance beam in the Kahului Park example
Suggestion
Please include regular stairs. This is my child's favorite thing to do at the playground- climb up and down stairs. It also helps parents get up to the top if something happens and a child needs help but won't go down the slide.
Suggestion
This shape and style of structure makes it very difficult for toddlers to climb or for parents to assist toddlers if they slip or need help. Would prefer a standard straight bar or a rock wall style climber.
Suggestion
Compared to the other two proposed designs for the other parks, this one is really a bummer. There's a slide that a lot of kids won't be able to get to and repetitive shapes climb on that don't even look that fun to climb. I would rather just see a cookie cutter basic park if this is the alternative.
Question
Is there a more accessible way to get to the slide? This design really limits the age and physical ability of kids who can get to the slide
Suggestion
I wish there was more variety in this park. The hexagonal shapes are repetitive and take up a lot of space. It also looks difficult for younger kids to climb. I would love to see variety of activities.
in reply to kapono's comment
For real, kids are gonna get wild on this thing
It could be nice to include ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi play-related words and imagery to the space
Suggestion
Would it be possible to convert this double slide to two separate slides for safe play?
Question
Where will the water bottle filling stations be? I can't seem to find them on this plan
I suggest adding a shaded picnic table here
Suggestion
I suggest adding an additional bench here so that families can keep an eye on their keiki playing on this side
Suggestion
I dislike the overuse of the hexagonal structures in lieu of proper bars for climbing. It severely limits the creativity of the users of the space. I would recommend instead using the style proposed for Hale Pi'ilani as a middle ground, as it allows the original designer to still incorporate their hexagonal idea, but allows for the additional inclusion of traditional bars that give children an opportunity to hang, climb, grab, and swing in ways these encapsulated structures significantly reduce.
