Lalaj1 Mar 30 2025 at 10:09PM on page 1 Question Why is there a roundabout in that area on Kahekili? The traffic coming from Waiehu/Waihee is for work which is in Wailuku Town. Why would they go towards piihana and imi loa bridge which is towards lower main that would lead to Kahului or Waiale? They eventually will bottle neck and traffic is still not resolved. Alternative 1 doesn't make sense. replies
Hjohn Mar 30 2025 at 4:43PM on page 1 Question Not so sure about having a round-a-bout on Kahekili Hwy and Kamaile intersect as thereʻs a rise in elevation as you are heading south on Kahekili Hwy passing Makaala Drive. The current mph is 30, similar to the Kihei round-a-bout. From the community meeting a few weeks ago, I was advised that the purpose of the round-a-bout was to slow down traffic and divert persons wanting to go to the Wailuku Industrial area versus having to go through Market St then to Mill Street. The other information that was given was that the Imi Kala project was to allow ʻHappy Valleyʻ residents to access a quicker route through Imi Kala in the event of an emergency. If this is the case, the presumption to use the Imi Kala project is to afford traffic from Kahekili Hwy through Imi Kala, then to Lower Main Street, then to Waiale Road., but Lower Main ends up being bottle necked and the same would be for Mill Street. The other option for ʻHappy Valleyʻ residents to access Kahului was to travel through Piihana Road to get to the Imi Kala extension. This is still an error because Piihana Road is really a single lane road and I donʻt think that option is even fathomable to consider. So whatʻs the reason why the extension is being done? replies
